Why I Founded The Spierings Medical Group
It was never my ambition to have a clinic with my name on the door.
I've always believed that people should focus on what they are trained to do and what they do best. For me, that's being a doctor. Looking after patients has always been my purpose—not running a business.
I've spent my career trying to become the best clinician I can be. I'm not a natural entrepreneur, and I never aspired to build a company or manage a large team. Caring for my patients has always been more than enough responsibility.
Throughout my career, whether working in the NHS or in private practice, I've learned to do the very best I can with the resources and systems around me. Doctors are trained to adapt. We get on with the job, and we always put our patients first.
But over time, I realised something important.
Doctors can only do their best work when they are supported by the right people, the right systems and the right environment. Without that foundation, they spend too much of their energy working around the system instead of focusing on the patient.
I realised that I wasn't thriving—not because I didn't love medicine, but because I wasn't working in an environment that allowed me to practise it in the way I believed it should be practised.
My dream was never to own a clinic. My dream was to work alongside like-minded colleagues who shared the same values: doctors and healthcare professionals who genuinely enjoy collaborating, learning from one another and always putting the patient first. I wanted to create a place where the team felt supported, respected and proud of the care they provide—because great healthcare is always a team effort.
I also wanted my patients to experience a level of service that matched the standard of care I strive to deliver as a doctor: thoughtful, personal and unhurried, in an environment that feels calm, welcoming and reassuring.
Eventually, I came to the conclusion that if I wanted to practise medicine this way for the rest of my career, I would have to build that environment myself.
That is why I founded The Spierings Medical Group.
Every decision we make is guided by a simple philosophy: when healthcare professionals are supported, trusted and empowered to do their best work, patients receive the very best care. That's why I've invested just as much in creating the right culture and environment for our team as I have in the clinic itself.
People often ask why I chose to put my surname above the door.
The answer is simple. My father, Professor Spierings, has always been the example of the kind of doctor I aspire to be. Throughout his career, he demonstrated that medicine is about integrity, humility, curiosity and always putting the patient first. Naming the clinic after my family isn't about me—it's about carrying forward those values.
My hope is that The Spierings Medical Group becomes known not simply as an outstanding medical clinic, but as a place where patients feel genuinely cared for, healthcare professionals love to work, and ethical, evidence-based medicine is the standard by which everything else is measured.
The Spierings Medical Group is my professional home, and my hope is that it becomes your family's healthcare home for many years to come.
Whether you're visiting us for the first time or you've been with us for years, you will always be welcomed as part of our community. My door is always open. If you have feedback, ideas or suggestions, I'd genuinely love to hear them. Drop by, send me an email or simply let me know how we're doing—and, just as importantly, how we can do better.
We're always listening. Because the best healthcare is built not only on evidence, but on trust, relationships and a commitment to keep improving.
