Manual Lymphatic Drainage

We offer MLD as an integrated part of comprehensive lymphatic and skin care — ensuring that every patient receives treatment that is clinically appropriate, properly overseen, and thoughtfully combined with other elements of their plan.
The Spierings Medical Group provides specialist manual lymphatic drainage, offering expert clinical therapy for patients with lymphoedema, post-surgical swelling, lipoedema, and related conditions. MLD is a precise, evidence-based technique — and when delivered by a trained specialist as part of a structured care plan, it can make a meaningful difference to swelling, skin health, and overall wellbeing.
Understanding Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle, specialised technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid through the lymphatic system, reducing swelling and supporting the body's natural drainage processes. It is distinct from general massage and requires specific training and clinical understanding to be performed safely and effectively.
MLD is a core component of complete decongestive therapy for lymphoedema and is also used in the management of lipoedema, post-surgical swelling, and certain inflammatory conditions where lymphatic support is beneficial. Not all MLD is equal, and the technique must always be adapted to the individual patient's condition and staging rather than applied as a generic treatment.
Our Approach
We provide MLD as part of a fully integrated approach to lymphatic health, not as a standalone offering. Every patient is assessed thoroughly before treatment begins, and MLD is combined with compression therapy, skin care, and patient education as part of a cohesive plan.
Our practitioners are trained specifically in medical MLD and work closely with our clinical team to ensure treatment is safe, appropriate, and properly monitored throughout.
