Understanding Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system is damaged or does not develop normally, leading to a build-up of lymph fluid and persistent swelling, most commonly in the arms or legs. It can be primary, arising from an inherent abnormality of the lymphatic system, or secondary, resulting from cancer treatment, surgery, infection, or injury.
Secondary lymphoedema is particularly common following cancer-related surgery or radiotherapy and can develop months or even years after treatment. Left unmanaged, it can lead to recurrent cellulitis, skin changes, fibrosis, and progressive impairment of the affected limb.
Our Approach
