Plinest Eyes

Sunlit forest with tall pine trees and rolling hills in the background during golden hour.

Every treatment begins with an honest assessment of what is causing your dark circles and whether Plinest® Eyes is genuinely the most appropriate option for you. Our goal is not to promise perfection, but to recommend what is most likely to help.

THE SPIERINGS
MEDICAL GROUP

The Spierings Medical Group offers Plinest® Eyes, a regenerative injectable treatment specifically designed for the delicate skin around the eyes. Unlike dermal fillers, which add volume or stretch the skin, Plinest® Eyes works by improving the quality of the skin itself — stimulating collagen production, increasing hydration, and enhancing elasticity over time.

What is Plinest® Eyes?

Plinest® Eyes is an injectable skin treatment specifically designed for the delicate skin around the eyes. It contains highly purified polynucleotides (PN-HPT®), naturally derived DNA fragments that work by improving the quality of the skin itself rather than simply filling or stretching it.

Unlike dermal fillers, Plinest® Eyes is a regenerative treatment. It aims to improve skin health over time by stimulating the skin's natural repair processes, increasing collagen production, improving hydration, and enhancing elasticity.

Who is it Suitable For?

Plinest® Eyes may be suitable if you are concerned about:

  • Dark under-eye circles caused by thin skin
  • Crepey or wrinkled under-eye skin
  • Loss of skin elasticity
  • Tired-looking eyes
  • Fine lines around the eyes
  • Mild under-eye hollowness caused by poor skin quality (rather than true volume loss)

It is suitable for both younger patients wishing to prevent ageing and older patients wanting to improve skin quality.

How Does it Work?

Polynucleotides act as biological stimulators within the skin. After injection they:

  • Stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin
  • Improve skin hydration
  • Increase skin thickness
  • Reduce oxidative stress
  • Support tissue repair
  • Improve elasticity and resilience of the delicate eyelid skin

Over several weeks the skin becomes healthier, stronger, and better able to reflect light, making the eye area appear brighter and less tired. Laboratory and early clinical studies support these biological effects, although larger high-quality clinical trials are still needed to fully define their long-term effectiveness.

Which Types of Dark Circles Improve?

Dark circles are not all the same.

Plinest® Eyes works best when dark circles are caused by thin under-eye skin, ageing skin, fine lines, reduced collagen, or mild skin laxity. Some patients with mild pigmentation, mild puffiness, or early crepey skin may also notice improvement. Plinest® Eyes is unlikely to significantly improve deep tear troughs caused by bone structure, prominent fat pads (eye bags), very dark genetic pigmentation, significant vascular (blue or purple) circles, or excess eyelid skin. During your consultation we will determine the main cause of your dark circles and discuss whether Plinest® Eyes is the most appropriate treatment.

What Does Treatment Involve?

Treatment usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes.

After cleansing the skin, a tiny entry point is made at the outer corner of the lower eyelid using a fine needle. Through this opening, a blunt-tipped cannula is gently passed beneath the skin to deliver the Plinest® Eyes evenly across the under-eye area. Using a cannula rather than multiple needle injections allows the product to be distributed through a single entry point and may reduce the risk of bruising and improve patient comfort. Most patients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. A topical anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand if required.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

For best results we usually recommend 3 treatment sessions approximately 2 to 4 weeks apart. Many patients then choose a maintenance treatment every 6 to 12 months, depending on their skin quality and ageing process.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients notice improved hydration within the first few weeks. Collagen production takes longer, so the greatest improvement is usually seen approximately 6 to 12 weeks after beginning treatment. Results develop gradually and naturally rather than immediately.

How Long Do Results Last?

Results vary between individuals. Many patients enjoy improvement for approximately 6 to 12 months, depending on age, skin quality, sun exposure, smoking, general health, and skincare routine.

Are There Scientific Studies?

There is increasing scientific interest in polynucleotide treatments. Published clinical studies have reported improvements in skin elasticity, hydration, skin texture, fine lines, and physician and patient satisfaction for dark under-eye circles.

However, it is important to recognise that the current evidence is still developing. Most published studies are relatively small observational studies rather than large randomised controlled trials, so while early results are encouraging, further high-quality research is needed.

What Are the Risks?

As with any injectable treatment, side effects can occur. Common temporary effects include small bumps at the injection sites, redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising. These usually settle within several days.

Less common risks include infection, prolonged swelling, allergic reaction, uneven results, and temporary lumps. Serious complications are uncommon when treatment is performed by an experienced medical practitioner using appropriate technique.

Aftercare

For the first 24 hours we recommend:

  • Avoid vigorous exercise
  • Avoid swimming
  • Avoid saunas and steam rooms
  • Do not rub or massage the treated area
  • Avoid alcohol if possible
  • Follow any specific aftercare advice provided by your clinician

Bruising can occasionally last up to one week.

Is Plinest® Eyes the Right Treatment for Me?

Not everyone with dark circles benefits from the same treatment. Depending on the underlying cause, we may instead recommend medical-grade skincare, treatment for pigmentation, tear trough filler (in carefully selected patients), laser treatment, surgical referral, or simply reassurance if treatment is unlikely to provide meaningful benefit.

Our aim is to recommend the treatment that is most likely to improve your specific type of dark circles, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach.
