Understanding Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes recurrent, painful nodules, abscesses, and tunnels in areas where skin rubs together, most commonly the armpits, groin, buttocks, and beneath the breasts. It is significantly more common than many people realise, yet the average time to diagnosis is still seven to ten years.

HS is not caused by poor hygiene and it is not contagious. It is a complex immune-mediated condition with genetic components, and it can have a profound impact on quality of life physically, emotionally, and socially.
